why why why

All I wanted was a nice picture of my kiddos in our backyard.

But someone did not want to cooperate. At all.

He usually loves it when sissy spins him.

Not today.

Someone. please. help.

Happy Halloween!!

Ella was a leopard.

I asked her to give me a cat face and this is what I got. I guess cats are mean?

I tried to make her nose pink, but all I had was Eye Bright from Benefit (which is an amazing, must have product, btw).

She was crawling like a cat (above) when I noticed the shadow on the wall (below).

From left: Ella, Savannah, Kennedy, Jaycee, and Connor.

Mr. boy boy licious was sleeping during all of the excitement, which is why he isn't in any of the pictures. Doesn't really matter, however, since I didn't buy him a costume. C'mon, I'm not spending money on a costume for him to wear for maybe an hour. Besides, it was too cold to take him around the neighborhood anyway.

Service Creek Cemetery

Took a trip to the cemetery for a family session last week (those images to follow), but I wanted to share the beautiful fall colors.

Ella came with me and just before I started shooting, she announced, "I'm gonna walk up the hill and find Uncle Donnie." It's been a few years (maybe three?) since we took her there and explained death, burial, etc. I don't know how she remembered where he was, but she told me that she sounded out his name to find him. Awwwww. She took this picture.

This is the image she captured from her position above.

This cemetery is so beautiful, so peaceful and I enjoy the time I've spent there. Did you know that we buried Donnie with his fishing pole? The cemetery is located on a reservoir where fishing is prohibited, but that small detail never stopped Donnie from fishing there. And of course he got caught and fined, but that didn't stop him either. A few weeks after his death, the constable came knocking on our door to serve him for not paying his fines. I chuckled and told him that he wasn't home, but that he could find him at the reservoir, and that's all I said.

Election

I don't post about politics because it really isn't a fun topic, and besides, to some extent, most politicians are corrupt. But I don't think we should judge them, and don't think that you are above corruption... everyone has a price. If someone offered to pay off your mortgage, or take care of your bills, it would be pretty hard to say no.

Anyway, everyone has a 'hot button topic' for the upcoming election and mine is big government. I really don't want the government taking care of me, or instituting new programs to make sure that I have a retirement, a home, an education, etc. I am a big believer on relying on oneself to succeed in life. Thanks, but I won't need any help (for instance, I would love to manage my own social security). I'll work hard, earn my money, and be happy.

And we all know that the only way there can be more government programs is if taxes are increased to generate the necessary revenue. (And history has proven that increasing taxes suffocates an economy, while lowering them stimulates the economy).

I'll try to be brief, but please remember the words of Thomas Jefferson when you are voting next Tuesday:
"A government big enough to give you everything you want, is strong enough to take everything you have."

Another one:
"My reading of history convinces me that most bad government results from too much government."

Last one:
"I predict future happiness for Americans if they can prevent the government from wasting the labors of the people under the pretense of taking care of them."

If you depend solely on the government, don't be surprised when they dictate all you're allowed to do.

Another Favorite

There aren't words to describe how much I love this man. Someday, I may attempt to articulate how wonderful he is, but just know that he is an absolute dream. I am so lucky that he's mine.

Erin and Family

My friend Erin and her kiddos stopped over a few weeks (ok, a month) ago to get pictures for their Christmas cards. Look at these blue eyes!

Little is such an attention hog, she was in multiple pictures of EVERY session that I shot this fall.

Then she freaks out and climbs this tree like a crazy cat.

And then leaps off of the tree like a crazy cat. Yes, I missed the focus, but you should see how quickly she moves!

Ok, back to the kiddos.

I love this picture of the three of them!

Oh man, is this little boy cute or what?!?

Sorry for the delay in getting these posted Erin, I promise I'll do better!

Busy week!

If you keep up with my wedding blog, then you know that my friend Cory Ann was visiting us from South Dakota last week. In fact, she just left this morning! We had a great time, and I have a ton of pictures to post, but I am CRAZY busy! For now, a cowboy and a supermodel shot at great-grandma's farm.

We Survived

I am pleased to report that Mr. Boy Boy Licious is feeling much better. By the end of the day Friday he had perked up quite a bit, and he was really good for mom and dad on Saturday while Craig and I were shooting a wedding.

The weather was so unbelievably gorgeous on Sunday that we decided to head over to great-grandma's farm for a picnic. Mr. Independent no longer stays put on his blanket, he feels the need to explore.

I call, "hey boy boy!" And this is the look I get.

But this baby cannot be deterred, he had a goal in mind.

Except when I followed him, he felt the need to climb my leg and fuss for a moment before moving on.

But this is what he was after. His sister at the top of the sliding board.

He wanted to be where she was in the worst way.

"I'm gonna do it momma, no matter how many times I make it two inches before slipping backwards into daddy's hands."

"I'm telling you, I have drive and ambition."

And if I continue to say her name, "la la la la la," then maybe... just maybe...

she'll come down here to me.

Yep, success achieved, even if I wasn't able to make it to the top. I still got my sissy.

Very Sick Baby

It has been a rough week. Daycare called us on Monday because boy boy had a fever. He was up most of Monday night and on Tuesday he was inconsolable. SCREAMING non-stop. I took him to the dr and she took one look in his mouth and said (and I quote), "wow." He has hand, foot, and mouth disease, which is essentially a virus which causes a fever and painful sores in the mouth. She said his mouth and throat were covered in them.

So, he was unable to eat or suck his paci, which he loves and is his main source of comfort. My poor sweet baby is MISERABLE. I cannot calm him down, when he is awake, he is SCREAMING. We've been giving him Tylenol/Motrin, but it does not seem to be helping much.

Craig and I take shifts at night so that we can each get some sleep. That husband of mine is so unbelievably wonderful, he truly understands the definition of team work. We have to take turns with boy boy because the crying can really get to you.

Anyway, I was already behind with my work because I was in bed all last week, and now I'm even further behind because of this illness. I realize that I owe many of you pictures from your family sessions, and I believe this just confirms why it's a good idea to get started on this stuff in September.

Like an accountant, I am working with the FIFO method (first in, first out), with paid clients being at the top of the list. Thank you for understanding!!

BYOP '08

Our 10th annual BYOP was a blast!! Can't you tell by the expression on boy boy's face? LOL He did not want his picture taken at the time and his eyes were filled with tears.

The infamous BYOP water. After cleaning up a million water bottles last year with barely a sip taken from them, we decided to buy small bottles.

Our adult beverage choices this year included Yuenglink Lager and Woodchuck Cider. The cider was very popular.

This was my best effort to disguise the ugly refrigerator that my dad turned into a beer meister.

Doesn't mom look pretty? I like her hair in the headband and she's been experimenting more with make-up (much to my delight!). She had the hardest job of the day... taking care of boy boy. Oh and, she was the ONLY person with BYOP gear from Cafe Press.

Ella and her friends.

This is her BFF, Rachel. I thought we were BFF's, but whatever.

The signature pumpkin! I'm so thankful that I had decorated it prior to falling ill. I was going to decorate another one with save the date information, but I didn't have the time. I'm thinking that next year we might have a 'signature pumpkin' contest. hmmm

The voting area.

I love these soda cans from Target. One of them was actually flavored like candy corn. Yuck.

Look how tall our girl is getting! Boy boy was taking a nap.

My friend Rachel and our boys. They are going to be BFF's when they get bigger, they just don't know it yet. LOL

We had a TON of kids this year, they really get into the decorating and carving.

Course so do the adults. Brian had a title to defend, after all (his family carved the hamburger pumpkin last year that one a medal).

Look at John Patrick! So cute!

Drew was attacking his pumpkin with the drill.

Time to vote! Can't complain if you don't vote!

Everyone was encouraged to vote.

Here are the winners, Kennedy won in the pattern category, Savannah in the non-carved category and Brooks in the freehand category. It is slight suspicious that Kennedy was in charge of making sure that everyone voted AND tallying the votes. I think that next year we will need to hire an independent auditor.

Speaking of next year, BYOP will be Saturday, October 3, 2009. Mark your calendars!
