Oops

We were so busy hosting Thanksgiving today that we didn't take any pictures. And boy boy diving into the whip cream on the pumpkin pie with his mouth wide open was adorable. Sorry.

Anyway, I just quickly wanted to pose this question...

At what age should one start bringing a dish, asking if they can help clean, etc? Please leave a comment.

Happy Thanksgiving

We are blessed beyond measure, and while I am thankful for many things, there is one thing I am most thankful for... the fact that it isn't last year. Imagine the worst stomach flu/virus you've ever had, and think about how you could barely survive 24 hours until you felt better. I was that sick THE ENTIRE NINE MONTHS OF PREGNANCY.

Thanksgiving of 2007 was a particularly rough day for me. We drove to Aunt Lucille's and I had some strange, pulsing pain in my back and lungs in addition to the nausea. Every breath hurt and Craig suggested a trip to the ER several times, if for no other reason than to tranquilize me.

My poor Mom, just look at how she is looking at me.

And this is what I did most of the day, but usually there were tears streaming down my face.

Makes me shudder just thinking about it.

I am THRILLED that I feel normal, can enjoy a wonderful meal, and sweet little boy boy is walking around babbling (even if it is always something about dada). Hope you have a wonderful day!

Brownie

In a never-ending effort to encourage boy boy to eat, we gave him a brownie the other day. Hey, I made brownies, it was family snack time and he's part of the family. Don't judge. LOL

Momma, look! A brownie! Chocolate!

Sissy, I'm serious, this is good stuff.

Ha ha ha, I can't believe this is happening.

I had better hurry up and try to eat it before they take it off of me.

Hallelujah.

Da da da da da da, I love this brownie!

Makes me do a jig in my chair.

Uh-ah, uh-ah, uh-ah, I have the cutest laugh.

Sissy, look at me, for real, I'm trying to eat a brownie here.

Ok momma, sissy won't watch me, but I know you will.

Oh yeah, I am the shizzle.

Momma, I am a big-a-boy and I need treats like this all the time.

Just look at this wondrous delight. And my momma says that I have the sweetest, softest lips ever, but I'm not sure what the big deal is.

Hmm, oh man.

One problem, I've been tasting the browning and playing with it in my mouth, but I haven't actually swallowed any of it. I'm not sure what to do at this point and I'm a little nervous.

Ok, someone help me, it's turned into fudge in my mouth and I can't do anything with it.

Darnit! I can't eat anything. THIS STINKS!

Oreo Truffles Redux

Ella and I were in Walmart the other day when she spotted these Oreo Cookies. I immediately thought of my Oreo Truffle recipe that I posted last year.

I had to modify the recipe slightly because the limited edition Oreo's only come in a smaller package.

1 pkg. (12 oz.) OREO Old Fashioned Candy Cane Cookies
1/2 pkg. (4 oz.) PHILADELPHIA Cream Cheese, softened
2 pkg. (8 oz. each) BAKER'S Semi-Sweet Baking Chocolate, melted
2-3 Candy Canes, crushed

CRUSH
the cookies to fine crumbs in food processor. (Cookies can also be finely crushed in a resealable plastic bag using a rolling pin.) Place in medium bowl. Add cream cheese; mix until well blended. Roll cookie mixture into balls, about 1-inch in diameter.

DIP balls in chocolate; place on wax paper-covered baking sheet. (Any leftover chocolate can be stored at room temperature for another use.) Sprinkle with crushed candy canes (I use two plastic bags and a mallet to crush the candy canes).

REFRIGERATE until firm, about 1 hour. Store leftover truffles, covered, in refrigerator.

Oh my, dare I say that these are even better than the original? I've tried a few iterations of this recipe (used strawberry milkshake Oreo's once), but this one is a winner and will definitely make it into my cookie rotation this year.

Little insisted that she get her picture taken as well. She is ALWAYS in on the action.

Ella at 11 months

Here is my sweet girl, do you think her and boy boy look alike? Her hair is lighter and she only had four teeth, he has eight (yet he can't eat).

She was much easier at this age than Licious. And she could eat food.

Look at her chub! I love it!

All of the above were taken at 11 months, this one was 13 months but I wanted to show more chub.

Ahhh, and while I was perusing our old photos, I came across one of Big. Did you know that Pooper's real name was Kea (pronounced Kay-ah)? We named her after the Kea Lani on Maui where we stayed for our honeymoon. Kea means white in Hawaiian and she had a little white patch on her chest. RIP Pooper/Big/Kea, we miss ya old girl.

Sweet Ella

Ella's first grade class has been reading stories about families and today each student was to take in a picture of themselves between 1-2 years old.

As I was looking through her images (which aren't nearly as good as boy boy's because of my skill level), I wanted to compare them at 11 months old.

This is not the picture I sent for school, but this is Ella at the same age as boy boy when she had the freaking chicken pox. Do you remember that? It was terrible!! My poor, sweet baby was covered. She was only three short weeks away from her immunization when another mother brought her baby to daycare with chicken pox. What angers me the most is that she knew her baby had them, but brought her anyway because she didn't want to deal with it. Didn't fit into her schedule, I suppose.

iPhone vs Blackberry

I currently have an iPhone and I love the phone, but cannot tolerate AT&T service (for instance, the coverage at our house is horrible) . Unfortunately, when I purchased my iPhone a year ago, there really wasn't another phone that could compete with the touchscreen capabilities.

I was really excited when I heard about the Blackberry Storm because it has a touchscreen and Verizon.

I miss Verizon. I miss being able to actually use my phone as a phone.

The Storm will be available in stores tomorrow, but I was invited to a pre-sales event at our local Verizon store and had the chance to play with one.

Unfortunately, I feel underwhelmed. I wanted to LOVE the phone. I wanted to drop AT&T like a bad habit and ride off into the sunset with my new Storm.

It's hard to describe, but it feels clunky next to the iPhone. It's a bit smaller, but has more depth and is heavier. The touch screen requires a press and a click, rather than just a press (they refer to it as clickthrough). Which addresses the tactile feedback that some users require.

The zoom on the camera, along with a flash, were pretty cool. The clarity of video was amazing. The fact that you can switch from the Blackberry keyboard (portrait mode) to a full qwerty keyboard (landscape mode) was also cool.

Battery life is longer and it has an expandable MicroSD slot, which is very useful. And it has copy/paste, which I would love.

If you are using a Blackberry, then you will love the Storm. But I'm not convinced that I am ready to give up the slickness my iPhone, in spite of the network issues. ARGHH

Boy Boy can walk!

All of the images of Licious in the last few posts were taken on the same day (obviously), but I finally caught him walking!

And he would have kept going if it weren't for those darn shoes!

We have a problem

In spite of his healthy appearance, boy boy does not eat anything except stage 1 baby food. He is extraordinarily texture sensitive and will choke, gag and throw up if any food gets near his mouth. I started giving him puffs and Cheerios around 8 months, which was the same time Ella started devouring them. By 11 months, she was eating table food. The pediatrician tells us to just put food on his tray and when he's ready and able, he'll eat it. (He has 8 teeth, btw).

Anyway, this series of images demonstrates how he feels about food. Sometimes we'll give him something and he will make the most awful face, JUST FROM LOOKING AT IT. Unbelievable.

Oh, here are some banana's, they look like fun.

No worries momma, I'm just playing with food.

A nice, green apple looks interesting.

But I'll try this banana.

It has a funny taste, and I cannot figure out why or how you expect me to eat this.

I mean, look at it.

Ok, I'll try again.

I had better sit down for this cause I'm getting nowhere.

Da da da da da, I'm playing with food, but I won't eat it!

Look, this is what I do... I try and try and try.

But it just doesn't feel right to me.

Ok, let's see how this works out, da da is opening it for me.

Nope, I'm not the least bit interested, I'd rather play with this bowl.

I WANNA EAT, I WANNA LIKE FOOD, BUT I DON'T!

I'll try again, maybe this green apple will work out.

Nope, it has a funny taste and I'm just not gonna do it.
